When I first started trading, I believed that spending more time in the market would allow me to profit faster.

I watched tutorials, followed trading communities, and experimented with various strategies. A new indicator or trading method always felt like a missing piece.

But 5 years ago, when I started this journey, I didn't understand one simple thing.

Being actively involved in the market doesn't mean you're making progress.

I would open trades because I had been watching charts for hours. If I didn't hold a position by the end of the day, it felt like I had wasted my time.

Some trades succeeded. Many did not.

The more I forced opportunities, the more erratic the results became.

Learning that doing nothing is also a decision

The biggest turning point wasn't discovering a new indicator or finding a secret strategy.

It was learning to wait.

I didn't treat every market movement as an opportunity. Instead, I started looking for specific conditions that fit my trading plan.

Sometimes I had to wait for hours.

Sometimes I had to close the charts without making a single trade.

At first, it was uncomfortable. But eventually, I realized that protecting my account was as important as finding profitable setups.

I didn't need to trade every day.

I needed to trade when my strategy gave me a reason.

Building a system I could actually follow

Once I stopped forcing trades, I began to pay more attention to market structure.

My approach became relatively simple.

Starting with higher timeframes to understand the broader market direction, I moved to lower timeframes to identify potential entry points.

I focused on price action, supply and demand zones, and how price reacted around key levels.

Rather than filling charts with indicators, I wanted to understand what the market was actually doing.

I also became more selective about the instruments I traded.

If I couldn't clearly identify a setup, I didn't participate.

That decision alone helped eliminate many unnecessary trades.

Practice changed my confidence

One of the biggest mistakes as a beginner was trying to learn everything through live trading.

I thought experience meant more trades.

Eventually, I realized that reviewing historical charts and testing my setups could teach me what I was missing in real-time.

Backtesting helped me understand how my strategy worked under various market conditions.

More importantly, it helped me recognize when my setup wasn't present.

I stopped judging my strategy based on one winning or losing trade.

Instead, I started looking at how it performed over a larger sample.

It didn't eliminate losses, but it provided a more structured way to evaluate my decisions.

Why risk management became my priority

For a long time, I focused almost entirely on potential profits.

Now, before entering a position, I think about how much I can lose.

My personal rule is to keep the planned risk in individual trades below 1% of my account.

I also define a stop loss before opening a position.

If a trade doesn't go well, I accept the loss rather than trying to recover immediately.

This became especially important when I started to approach the funded trading challenge more seriously.

In the AiXFunded Challenge, you must consider applicable daily and overall loss limits as well as profit targets.

A profitable strategy means little if rule violations occur due to poor risk management before completing the evaluation.

My goal is no longer to make as much money as possible on every trade. It is to make decisions that can be repeated without putting the entire account at risk.

A different approach to the funded challenge

When I first became interested in funded trading, I saw it as something I had to pass as quickly as possible.

That mindset encouraged me to take unnecessary risks.

Today, I approach the process differently.

I see the challenge as a way to test if I can follow my strategy under clearly defined conditions.

There is no need to achieve the profit target in one session.

There is also no need to increase position size after a losing trade.

And just because the market is open doesn't mean you have to trade.

The most important part is following the plan within the account's risk limits.

If I can do that consistently, I provide a better opportunity to progress through the evaluation.

$10,000 milestone

In this descriptive journey, the change in approach eventually led to a milestone I once thought unreachable: Trading profit of $10,000.

It didn't happen because of one lucky trade or aggressive betting.

It came from waiting for setups, following predefined risk limits, and accepting that some days are better spent outside the market.

When I saw the final result, the number felt almost unreal.

Five years ago, I couldn't even endure a trading session without feeling the need to open a position.

Now, I've reached a five-figure profit milestone with greater discipline while doing less.

$10,000 was significant. Of course, it was.

But more important was understanding how I got there.

What five years of trading taught me

Looking back, I spent too much time searching for the perfect trading strategy.

I thought successful traders were those who could predict every market move.

Now I see it differently.

I still have losing trades. I still miss opportunities. And there are days when the market doesn't offer anything worth trading.

But I no longer feel the need to force outcomes.

If I could give one piece of advice to my younger self, it would be this:

Be patient with progress, but take preparation seriously.

Five years ago, I thought trading more was the answer.

Today, I understand that knowing when not to trade can be equally valuable.

I didn't reach $10,000 by trading more. I got there by learning when to stop.
